LE VOYAGE CÉLESTE EXTATIQUE

Jean and Cosmiel have been touched by the grace of the higher authorities! They have been freed from the contingencies of their physical body: ethereal materials floating in the universe, our two friends begin a curious stroll through different worlds: the Moon, the Sun, Pluto... Silent and contemplative, their journey is also rhythmic , from time to time, by the lessons of trivial metaphysics that the wise Cosmiel lavishes on Jean the novice.

At the beginning, there is the Ecstatic Celestial Voyage, by Athanasius Kircher, a 16th century German Jesuit. This superbly illustrated metaphysical-scientific work recounts a strange trip in a universe of bygone laws. Kircher is somewhere between precursory genius and enlightened dunce. Author of many treatises in many fields, we owe him some fine intuitions; but in the end, his wanderings (alas, numerous) plunged him into relative oblivion, even if, let's face it, they make him eminently sympathetic. In love with the character as much as with his work, Clément places himself as a distant heir to this good scientist.

But demiurge himself, he triturates this material at leisure and makes this "Voyage" a superb immersion in his own universe. By the play of its strange perspectives, its sumptuous decorations, its hallucinated lights, Clément surprises and amazes; or, better still: amazes.
