For over a century, the Harima region of Awaji Island in Japan has been renowned for producing matches and incense. The island’s westerly winds create ideal humidity and temperature for drying incense, while locally grown herbs, cultivated using traditional methods, give Japanese fragrances their distinctive character. After three years of research and development, two heritage companies—Kobe Match Co., Ltd. and Daihatsu Co., Ltd.—came together in 2011 to create the award-winning hibi incense match.
