Tove Jansson
Tove Jansson was born in Finland in 1914 to a sculptor father and an illustrator mother. She studied art in Sweden, Finland, and France. It was the Moomin series, which she created in 1941, that made her world-famous. Thanks to them, she won the Nils Holgersson Award in 1953, the prestigious international Hans Christian Andersen Award in 1966, three State Literary Prizes in 1963, 1971, and 1982, the Finland Prize in 1993, as well as the Harvey Award for Best American Edition of a Foreign Work. The world of these endearing trolls is now being revisited by a new generation of talented illustrators, bringing new life to the author’s stories that had never been illustrated until now. She died in 2001.
