Heirloom Hats

Samantha-Tara Mainville has been passionate about hats since her teenage years, when she explored thrift stores for unique pieces. A jewelry-making course later revealed her desire not just to collect hats but to create them, leading her to discover the artistic and sensory richness of millinery. She trained under Canadian milliner Lucie Grégoire and launched her brand, Heirloom, in 2015.

Her style—initially simple and monochrome—evolved into a vibrant, playful universe marked by bold shapes and rich colors. Her headpieces, treated as small artworks, have been showcased at the Montréal Museum of Fine Arts and the Contemporary Art Museum of Montreal in exhibitions linked to Thierry Mugler and Cheryl Sims.

Deeply thoughtful and human-centered, Samantha’s approach celebrates individuality and makes the art of hat-wearing accessible—like a welcoming dinner among friends where everyone, hat or no hat, belongs.

Heirloom preserves the timeless craft of millinery by blending modern aesthetics with traditional, handcrafted techniques. Each hat is meticulously created in her Montreal studio, honoring heritage while reimagining it for today.
